The murals in this health centre celebrate the diversity
and connectivty of life on our planet.
The designs were conceived through looking closely
at nature from a microscopic to a worldview, discovering how shapes
are related in a variety of ways.
Artist Jo Knowles worked with children from Barkerend Primary
School and Hillside Bridge Health Care Centre Public and Patient
Involvement groups to develop the themes for the large Murals.
Thornbury Health Centre -"Circular Senses"
Artist Vic Buta Worked with local schools and community
groups to to generate designs and artwork fopr this project.
Five circular artworks were produced each one 1 metre in diameter.
Each piece reltes to one of the five senses. Touch
Students at Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College produced
plaster casts and ceramic disks on the theme of touch and texture;creating
textures and patterns on circles of clay.
Younger children from a KS&W Parent and Child pottery group
contributed by using their hands to smear on muddy clay "slip"
from which casts were later taken.
taste Participants from Morton House Childrens Centre
produced designs using circular sections of fruit and veg to make
prints. They also made food to make edible collages (since consumed)!
Sound
Year 8 students at Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College
made their own visual music paintings and looked at patterns made
by sound vibrations. Using a microphone and computer students
generated visual representations of sound. Vic incorporated the
wave patterns they produced into this circular painting.
